Moraira

Moraira, a small town located in the La Marina Alta district of Alicante. Careful town planning and strict building laws has kept Moraira one of the most unspoilt resorts in the north Costa Blanca. Just 40 years ago it was just a small cluster of fishing cottages next to the sea and administered by the nearby main town of Teulada.  Now Moraira has gained some independence with its on town hall and new medical centre.  A market is held every Friday in the free car park where you can find a variety of things from fresh fruit and vegetables to traditional Flamenco dresses. 

Moraira is a situated 8km away from the National N332 and AP7 and seems to avoid the tourist congestion that some of the neighbouring resorts endure.  The population according to the last census in 2007 was 13.000 of which 60.37% were of foreign nationality with numbers swelling in the summer months.

Within a 4km stretch of coastline Moraira boasts 3 blue flag sandy beaches L´Ampolla, Platgetes and El Portet also small coves such as L´Andrago, Punta Estrella, Cap Blanc and La Cala.

The beach of El Portet found in the Puerto del San Roque is sheltered by the Cap Dor headland, the beach is 330m long and 10m wide with disabled access, the water is warm and shallow and ideal for children.  There are a couple of cafes on the front, Restaurant El Portet for good Paella, Restaurant La Daupin, Oasis Bar and a small supermarket.

L´Ampolla is the main beach of Moraira touching the village, there is a car park, bar/restaurant and children’s play park.  The beach measures 240m wide and 40m deep with fine sand with a life guard in the summer months between 11am and 7pm.

The beach of Les Playetes or Playa Platgetes (Velenciano or Castilian) is found 850m from Moraira along the coast road in the direction of Calpe, there is a good selection of bars and restaurants in this area of Cometa.
